The QuoteCheck Journey
Most innovation starts with a conversation.
For QuoteCheck, that conversation happened over coffee in a small Sydney café when insurance veterans John Houston and Steve Browne caught up after years working in different parts of the industry.
At the time, John was working in loss adjusting and shared a frustrating experience – validating the costs for a single total loss claim had taken almost eight hours. And it wasn't an isolated incident – it was a symptom of a much bigger industry challenge.
With more than 40 years of experience in technology, Steve recognised that traditional approaches to validating repair quotes were no longer fit for purpose. Steve’s question was simple – ‘why don’t we automate that?’
Building repair costs were changing rapidly, inflation was driving significant regional price variation, and insurers needed a faster, more accurate, cost effective and data-driven way to assess repair costs.
That coffee meeting became the catalyst for QuoteCheck.
Now with QuoteCheck, the cost validation that once took eight hours takes eight minutes.
The process
Developing QuoteCheck has involved trial and error, learnings and misgivings – all standard fare for a tech start up.
Over six years, Steve and John worked alongside software developers, building experts, assessors and – most importantly – real insurance clients, to get the platform right.
QuoteCheck wouldn’t be the award-winning platform it is today without those willing clients who provided real-world feedback in the pursuit of a solution to ease their claim costs and reduce the impact on their claims staff and external service providers.
Bringing the technology together was no small task. QuoteCheck combines sophisticated pricing algorithms, live regional cost data and multiple purpose-built AI engines to analyse complex repair quotes in minutes.
They say there are no overnight success stories and QuoteCheck is no exception. Late nights, weekends, meetings with developers and experts, sleepless nights spent problem solving were all part of the process.
Then came the sales cycle – meetings with prospects, explaining QuoteCheck and demonstrating what it can do. Some wanted solutions not invented yet, others weren’t quite ready – but the joy of working with those keen to give it a go and enjoy the benefits made it all worthwhile.
All of this helped refine the product, its operational integration and its features and data. QuoteCheck is now a unique, bespoke, AI driven cost validation service that requires little to no implementation.
The QuoteCheck difference
Today, QuoteCheck is helping insurers achieve measurable improvements across their claims operations.
Benefits include compliance to agreed rates, reduction in repair costs by 10-12% overnight and accurate data. Clients report more informed provider management meetings with the ability to drill down to the micro level to help builders understand how they compare and compete against their peers.
QuoteCheck provides detailed insights into individual cost components – from supervision and waste management to cleaning, plasterboard and labour – giving insurers and builders a shared understanding of where costs align with market expectations.
The outcome is better conversations, stronger relationships and more informed decision-making.
It’s been a wild ride, but the positive feedback makes it worth it. Happier claims staff, better builders experience and absolutely no impact to the claims lifecycle. Brokers, strata managers and property owners don't even know QuoteCheck is in operation because the results are produced in minutes.
QuoteCheck – simple, easy to use and bringing fairness and transparency to the insurance claims process.
